3,000 lumens are sufficient for non-portable projection in typical indoor spaces. In bright places, just consider 4000-6000 lumens which receive more direct light. Even in the cases, when venue applications are large brightness can boost up to 18,000 lumens for a one-chip DLP projector.

Last but not the least, you need not forget about the sources you will be using and connecting them to the portable projector. An HDMI is one of the most common connections.
